1997-1999 Subaru EJ25D

Hello everyone! I am new here, but I have been researching for a while now trying to figure out how to properly datalog and possibly even tune my car!

I have a 1997 Subaru Impreza Brighton (EJ18) and I have swapped in an EJ25D w/ matching ECU from a '98 Impreza 2.5RS.

I have tried searching high and low for information, but the only responses I get are "It can not be done."

I have tried many different software programs, and only one has shown any kind of results. It is a generic OBD-II program, and it will connect and allow me to read/clear DTCs as well as show me RPM, coolant temp, throttle %, ect. But only for a short period of time before it disconnects itself.

I am using a Vag-Com cable that I purchased from eBay, and I am beginning to think that may be why I am having such a hard time connecting. Like I said, I can get the very basic generic stuff, but I cannot get into the SSM at all.

I ran a program called VCDS-Lite, and here is what it told me:

VCDS-Lite Obd-II Compatibilty Test

Test Status: Test Complete
Result: Protocol Keyword: $0808
ISO9142-2 OBD-II Software
OBD-2 Software Should Work

VCDS -Lite: Port Test

Interface: Found!
Type: Serial Pass-Through
Opto/Iso: No
Ross-Tech Design: No

Latency Test: Poor
1.8 11.1 27.0 (ms)

I believe it is a JECS ECU... Any information or guidance is GREATLY appreciated!

There is no support for flashing these vehicles in the current release of ECUFlash. Several people have made queries on this forum but so far nobody seems to know how the reflashing is done.
Datalogging- sure, I just don't know the protocols. That shouldn't be too hard to find. It might even use the SSM2 protocol for all I know (see ROMRaider).
I can't help you any more than that sorry.

How would I go about finding the 'protocols'?

Also, my biggest problem so far is connecting to the ECU. Like I said, there is 1 generic program that I found that will connect... I have tried ECUExplorer, ECUTracker, ROMRaider, Delta Dash, and a whole bunch of others, but they just will not connect.

Your are to use FTDI chipset based USB\UART adapter and evoScan software.
Protocol is most probably SSM1 for data logging.

A half of parameter defs is usually incorrect and you will need to reconfigure the applicable definition file.

I believe the processor is flashable. There is no market\interest for such a design to be done.

Good luck.

Thanks Sasha_A80. I agree, the size of the market and degree of interest does not warrant the R&D investment reflashing these.
