03 wrx won't connect

03 wrx won't connect

Postby almostfamous » Wed Mar 17, 2010 4:32 pm

It's probably just me but I can't get the rom to open on a 03 wrx, I have the green connectors connected and the jumper is in. This is my 1st Subaru and I could use some help. It doesn't seem to matter which model I could I still get the same read error in the log.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Are you at least getting the car into test mode? Check engine light flashes, fuel pump cycles, radiator fans cycle?

Do you know the history of this car? Have you downloaded RomRaider? Can you log, using just RomRaider Logger? Sometimes it is difficult to pull 02-03 WRX's roms. Just be sure to click the read button and turn the key on at the same time.
It might be locked, any mods done to this car?

I didn't try logging with romraider yet, this car has a lot of mods and I was wondering if it may be locked, there is on the battery holddown an engraving that says tuned by Cobb, but I wasn't sure if that was real or just an accessory that the previous owner bought.
Thank you

Well, if you dont 'care' about the tune that is on it. You can load a stock rom back on your ECU. But I usually log locked ECU's, to get their ECU ID, then I can start over w/ a stock rom image. I know that is not feasible for most people. Usually w/ Cobb AP version 1, you would still be able to pull the rom and modify it. But AP ver.2 will lock your ECU... so does EcuTek.
Do you have larger injectors, different sized MAF, etc????
There are some options available to you.

Connect all the cables and as soon as you turn the key to on click the connect/read button on ecuflash. you don't have to be particularly fast just connect before all the lights stop flashing on the dash.
