STi Immobilizer

STi Immobilizer

Postby greenlimecat » Thu Mar 27, 2008 2:07 pm

2004-2005 STi, is there an immobilizer? I know in the EVO's it is clearly defined in the ROM, but I do not see it in any of the STi files that I have? The reason is that I need to switch out ECU's in a car and I am not 100% sure if that it can be just swapped without anything or that I have to change the immobilizer.

No immobilizer in 04-06 USDM STi ECU.

When you don't know the answer you should keep quiet.

You cannot swap 2004 and 2005 STI ECUs.

Thanks for the clarification. Is the immobilizer code in the ROM? What is the interaction between the ECU and the immobilizer system? I'm almost sure I've swapped ECUs in a 2004 STi without issue.

Otherwise, there are less douche-like ways of correcting people.

Boy, this is a good question and lateapex31 asked some good follow up questions, hopefully his last sentance will not get in the way of answering them.

Thanks for the info, the chart helps. So onto the more important part--- if it has an immobilizer, where do we find it in the code to change one ecu into another. I know for the EVO's it is already out in the open, but not for the Scooby's. Again, thanks for the input so far.

Any dealer with the current Select Monitor has the ability to pair ECU with immobilizers and/or keys. AFAIC it is not possible for the end user to change this with the current tools. There were rumors that someone knew someone who knew someone who did it with an "insert name of random tool" but they are just rumors.

The simple answer is either -
Buy an 04 STI ecu and change 5 wires so you don't have the immobilizer
Buy an 05/06 STI ecu with matching immobilizer box and at least on key.
