Here is the ROM from my STi. It was supplied by an importer with the ECU remapped_for_UK_fuel' using EcuTeks flash app.

The 1st file is the map as supplied and the 2nd has the ignition retarded by 2 degrees globally to prevent the det I was seeing around 4k after fitting a high flow exhaust system. The timing was removed using DeltaDash.

Each time I hit Add Attachment the window will refresh and remove the path from the file location

Make sure you're not tryin to attach a bin or hex file.
Convert it to zip format before you try to attach it...

Here's a 5th gear run from 2k to 6.5k so you can get an idea of how it runs, note how rich it is; AFR of 10.9 at 3k richening further to 10.08 at 6.2k. I reckon there's something to be had there.......

Hi Mo,

What octane fuel do you have?

It looks like there is still too much timing in there- there are two places in that run where the car pulls timing (around 5k and 6k). I would trying lowering the knock correction a ltitle bit to smooth out the curve.

Those AFRs should be plenty rich (I don't think you even have to run that rich on our crummy CA 91 octane), so I'm guessing that there is something to be had by lowering timing and leaning things out.

Please let me know if I can help. Thanks for the ECU dumps. Also, I compared the two and they are identical. I'm guessing DeltaDash does a global retard somewhere in RAM.

Hi Mikie thankyou for the response and I apologise for taking so long.

We have what is known here as Super Unleaded rated at 97 RON which I think is equivilent to the US 93 octane and Shell offer a fuel called Optimax rated at 98.6 RON which is what I always run with.

Your right with the changes in RAM, hence why it resorts back to normal after a reset. There's definately too much timing, I can here det (with det cans) at around 5.5k but only ever in 4th gear, 5th is clean and I can't reach 5.5k in 6th on the road ;)

I'm used to mapping with GUIs and have no experience with Hex editors so I'm a little apprehensive to attempt any changes just yet, I need to do some more research. Can you just confirm something for me, there's no way to see where you are on the map?? So I guess it's make the change, road test, log and analyse or am I missing something?

Where do I look to remove the fuel, presumably the low det fuel map leaving the high det as is in case I run into any problems? I also run an early GC8 Impreza that runs AFRs around 11.7 quite happily so there's no need for the way this one's set-up at present, I struggle to get 200 miles from a tank!

Using ecuEdit to 'see' maps

Mo,

You asked me for help via email to get you up and going with ecuEdit. I understand you not familiar with XML so here goes. I thought the easiest way is by example. I've looked at your ECU dump and quickly created the Low and High Det 3D Fuel maps. I did this using the latest version of ecuEdit 1.2.0.29a. ecuEdit stores an XML configuration file behind the scenes which you do not need to know anything about. You describe (configure) ecuEdit with your maps using the Edit->New Map option within ecuEdit.

Please find below two attachments. The first is the XML configuration file used to describe the Low and High Det Fuel Maps. You can overwrite your existing ecuEdit.xml with this file (note you have to rename my version). The second attachment is a quick screen shot of what you will see if you have if all configured correctly.

I'm more than happy to continue to help however I thought I post my initial response here for scrutiny of the OpenECU community, especially as I've only been this tool for about 3 weeks!

Let us know here if you need any more help.

If I would recommend leaving the high det map alone for the most part. You may want to rescale it if you start modifying your boost levels, but I think leaving it alone for the most part is fine.

The low det map is where you want to do your work :) I can speak more about USDM 2.0l motors, however, on 93 octane gas, I would guess you couldn't get away with running close to 12:1 at peak torque tapering to 11:1 at redline. I would slowly lean things out and see if you are making more power. Keep an eye on EGTs as well.

When leaning things out, you will need less timing that before, and since you are already knocking, I would pull out a few degrees to start with. See where that takes you. I find your fueling maps interesting- they run richest at peak torque, while the USDM maps and JDM maps run richest at redline. I'm not sure why the tuning for the EU cars is different. Also, there is a richer area in your map between 5200-5600 RPMs- I don't know why that is, but it might be interesting to see your AVCS map to see if there is additional overlap in that area.
