That should work fine; it is the correct cable.
If it's freezing your laptop, then the drivers are probably not installed correctly, which is the most likely reason you can't connect to your vehicle. Look in device manager to check this.
Alternatively the port settings in EVO Scan may be incorrect; check that.

Good to hear it's working on EVO. That means the reason for the WRX problems is not your PC.

All WRX / variants that I know of require the green test mode connectors (under the dash) to be connected to be read or written to using ECUFlash (not required for datalogging). Some vehicles have 2 sets of connectors that need to be connected; one under the dash, one in the passenger footwell. The way to tell if test mode is set up correctly is to turn the key on and listen to the fans; they should cycle on and off. The Check-Engine Light should flash too (I think). If this is not happening, look for another set of green connectors.

The 4- or 6-way (depending on model) jumper blocks are required only for reflashing of 2.0l non DBW models; it enables the programming voltage (12V). This is not required on DBW models.

Thanks for the help radsdau

Until now, I still not be able to get it work on WRXs, working fine with EVOs

Can someone advice or give me some indication ?

With the EVOSCAN Software

Under EVOSCAN USB CABLE, I choose Subaru
Under SELECT ECU, I choose SSMII
Did not plug in the Green or Blue connector, as I got told I only need them when I am Reading or Flashing the ECU.

With the ECUFLASH SOFTWARE..always stop in half way of reading ECU file.

Should I buy another cable to try, as in different brand.

Thank you

Justin

untick some dataitems, it maybe sending a RAM adress your subaru is not allowed to access.
