Cannot connect, tried everything

Postby mosu » Thu Mar 22, 2007 8:29 pm

Hi guys,

I'm really stumped - tried everything from installing a fresh version of ECUExplorer and ECUFlash on a clean laptop, connected the green under-dash connector, and I still can't get any readings from the ECU, in ECUExplorer or ECUFlash.
In ECU Explorer I get the following error repeating several times a second in the logs:

23:23:08.390 - Comms Error - Write [WriteFile] : 6 [0x6]
23:23:08.390 - [QueryECUType] write [4102] returned less than buffer length [6]
23:23:08.390 - QueryECUType failed with 4112 [0x1010]
23:23:08.406 - --> 80 10 F0 01 BF 40

In ECU Flash, if I select the wrong type of ECU for reading (04-05 USDM), it reads the following then stops:
[02:44:54.527] ssm2_init
[02:44:54.687] ECU ID is 3D FFFFFFA4 58 30 05
[02:44:54.697] ssm2_cmd_0x81

Since my car is an 02 USDM wagon, that is really baffling.

Please help me out, this is really frustrating. I don't see any reason why this shouldn't be working...

Thanks
mosu

What cable are you using?

Tactrix 1.3, received a couple of days ago, following the ECU Flash driver install procedure outlined by several posts here.

I don't know if this matters one bit, but flipping through my maintenance receipts I saw that at the 74K service the dealer flashed an update on the ECU to the previous owner. Are updated editions of the WRX ECU known to cause trouble?

what error message do you get when you use the correct read method (01-03 wrx)?

In ECU Flash, it says 5 times:
denso_bootloader_cmd_start
followed by:
get kernel something or other.

For ECU Explorer, the actual log error is the one in my previous post, repeated constantly, as it's polling. No other error is shown.

Do I have to connect any other connector other than the shorting one of the green ones?

You actually don't need to connect the test mode (green) connectors for logging, just for reading/flashing. Sounds like a driver issue to me. What version of Ecuflash are you using and what OS?

Win XP SP2, Ecu Flash 1.30 clean install on new computer.

Just tried Enginuity and it works for logging beautifully. I guess I'll use that for the time being.
As far ECU Flash is concerned for the 02, I need to short 1 green connector, or both the ones dangling under the dash? The FAQs don't really make it clear, and it looks like the two blue caps I got with the cable only fit on one of the connectors.

I think you are misunderstanding. The green connectors are connected to each other to enter test mode. The two blue jumper blocks you got with the tactrix - one is for 01/02s and the other for 03-05s. The one with two prongs is for the 01/02s. Look for a white female connector in the same area.

Then I'm supposed to connect the greens together, and short the white one with the jumper block I got from Tactrix, right?

I also managed to pull this log with Enginuity from a quick run. It seems like I have quite a bit of knock correction. Is it normal, or indicative of a problem?

Thanks for looking at it...

when you tried to read using ecuflash, were the green test mode connectors together? did you notice that the car was actually in test mode, e.g. the fans were cycling?

I've heard of vehicles marked as MY05 WRX that work with the WRX04 protocol in ECUFlash... have you tried that? (does that mean the V1.2 or V1.3 universal cable too?)
