Issue with "Test write" on MR560348 from 2001 Montero Sport

Hello everyone, got a very annoying issue at hand.

I'm working on tuning a 2001 Montero sport 6G72, and so far all I'm able to do is read and brick the PCM.

I'm running Version 1.43.3150 of ECUFlash and an OpenPort2.0 cable.

Model number is MR560348, board number is JE331B38404B .

The PCM uses the MH8301F processor, and can be read successfully using the Lancer RalliArt read definition.
For writing, I made a copy of the read def and removed the mitsucan checksum module. The mitsubootloader is the only way I can initialize communications with the PCM.

I've narrowed it down to the "Test Write" button causing the actual bricking, which seems rather odd, given that it is not supposed to write anything.

Looking through the attached log file, the following lines irk me a bit...

Flashing ECU memory...
Erasing ECU memory...
kernel erase

I'm not sure if it's just going through the motions, but not doing it, or if the test write actually is erasing the flash memory, in which case there should be a warning dialog/option to grey out test write on certain ECU's.

I have not tried a real write, because I've always followed the procedure of "read, test write, actual write" in order to avoid issues.
Ironically, that seems to have bit me in the posterior...

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I find it a bit hard to beleieve that after 60 views nobody has any questions or comments.

Am I missing critical information that is required to get to the bottom of this?

I can loan/donate a PCM to the design team if it helps.
