I leave those connectors in my car all of the time. It is only the test mode connector you must connect / disconnect.

My personal preference is to leave the flash block off if I don't plan on flashing. That way if I accidentaly push the wrong button (hasn't happened yet) it won't accidentaly flash when I just want to read... that's all. In the end we all do what we want, I just wanted to make it clear above that the white block wasn't nessacery for the reading process... something a lot of newcomers aren't aware of.

Just ordered the jumped flash block connector from tactrix
I guess i have to try with that since i tried evrything else.
Will update when it arrives.
If that fails then I might ask somebody to remote connect to my laptop to assist.
BTW I appreciate all the responses so far

Success at last.

I HAD TO use the connect the jumped FLASH BLOCK CONNECTOR.
Tried with and without and can say that definitely for my car AH581-5122 you have to jump the white connector to read the ECU

Spiider thanks for saying same , You are indeed correct sir.

Tuning time now!

I think more people are having trouble from NOT having it connected.
Not one person has reported accidentally flashing their car.

Glad to hear that it worked for you.

That makes no sense... goes against everything that's been known about flashing procedures. I don't have to have my flash connector in to read... just to flash.

Take a look at page 7 of this document.

On the 2004-2005 Impreza WRX, the "reflash" connector (B300) is actually a jumper for two signals. One is the reflash voltage, the other is an OEM line end (LE) signal line, which is used on 2001-2003 WRXs to enter the bootloader. There may be some 2003 models which use the newer connector, but still need the connection to this line. Or perhaps the ECU just likes to see that line being pulled to 12V. Just a thought.

I have seen usdm 2003's with the two wire jumper, and some usdm 2003 with the older 2002 style single jumper. I think the switchover in harnesses was somewhere at the end of the 2003 model line.

It doesn't go against "goes against everything that's been known about flashing procedures", lol.

I've done successful reading without the white jumper on an 02 WRX as well as my 04... maybe you guys just aren't holding your mouth right. I will say this much... when I did do the 02 I was using the old "command line" ecuFlash... maybe something's changed in the new one?
