Impreza (non Turbo) probably has a JECS ECU, not Denso. Check that (should be written on the top). If it is not Denso, then sorry, it is not supported by ECUFlash.
If you can read the ROM but there are no definitions for it, post the ROM so the openecu community can work on generating a definition for it.

Honestly Leo, it's not sounding good. There may be a way but I don't know it.
Any chance of some photos of the outside and insides of the ECU, particularly the large chip?

Thanks- good pics.
Definitely not a Denso ECU though (as you already knew); the 'UJ' on the chip probably stands for UNISIA JECS at a guess. They merged with Hitachi in 2004.
Sorry- I can't help you with reflashing. It'd be nice if we knew how though.

i read that the EcuExplorer can work with Hitachi ECU on Tactrix 1.3... but i don't have this one only OP2.0...
Or is some version of EcuExplorer witch work with Tactrix 2.0 ??

As far as I'm aware Ecutek are the only company that offer a reflashing solution for these, and even then I'm not sure how reliable they are. I've heard several stories of bricked/unrecoverable ECUs as a result of attempting to reflash them.

Subaru MY 99/00 JECS ecu based on UJ WA12212920WWW UJ WA12212930WWW ( Mitstubishi m32150 processor )could not be flashed in a safe manner thru SSM. This is due to improper flash partition.
SSM bootloader code is erased before flash and if something goes wrong during flashing the ecu dyes.
More recent Hitachi ecus may not erase bootloader but have logical errors that may kill the ecu as well.
From probably MY06/MY07 safe reflash maybe done.

So there's no background reflashing process to recover these with if the SSM reflash fails?
