Probs with 2005 RS2.5 and ECU Flash

Ok, here's what I'm working with:
2005 Saab 9-2x (2005 USDM Impreza RS 2.5 clone) w/ the E2ZJ113G ECU
Vag-comm 409.1 KKL OBDII-USB
Windows 7 x64 PC
I've solved my RR problems (stupid Java) and can log no problem.
Now I've tried BOTH versions of ECU Flash since I've been told the 1.29a is the only one that will work with the Vag-Comm cable, but when I install as admin, install the new defintions, and use the FDTI-whatever drivers for the USB converter AND Com port, it says "Cannot open OpenPort Device" and "No vehicle interface" when in the bottom right hand corner it says "USB to Serial Interface"
However, in the 1.42 version (WITHOUT installing the OP 2.0 segment), using the 2005-2007 DBW option (since no N/A surbaru DBW option exists) I can get it to init, then is says ECU ID is xx xx xx xx xx then Sending key, then Receiving Seed, then "An Error occurred, see log" and 2 lines of "interface closed".
What's up? I've read mixed things about needing to use a jumper with the DBW systems? and then in other places it says NO JUMPER is required for subaru DBW vehicles?
