cant start car if white connector is connected

I can start my car and log my evo 9 with evoscan. as long as I dont have the white connector connected. If I connect the white connector while the USB is connected to my laptop my car wont start. If i just have the white connector connected but not the usb then the car starts fine. I also cant read or write to the ROM.
disconnected the white connector wire and measureing voltage with the ignition ON. I get the 12V coming out the black connector wire to white connector. I get 5 volts comming off the ECU going to the white connector.
any idea what is causing this?

The white connector is for putting the ECU in reflashing mode. Ideally the voltage required for this (15-18V) should be applied by the cable/software unless reflashing. Sounds like your cable is driving this voltage when it shouldn't be.
It's not required for data logging.

so should I disconnect the white connector and ground that 1 pin?
by the way I measured the voltages. If i disconnect the white connector, the voltage at the cars OEM white pin is 5 Volts, I get 12 Volts on the pin that gets connected to the black connector.

here is the error log I get, on the end you can see it reads the kernel is valid but then i get kernel rsp end.

No need to ground any pins.
Bottom line: Only connect the white reflashing plug when you're reflashing; remove at all other times, i.e., car running (includes logging).

so is there anyways to fix the cable or do I have to buy another one?

I don't think it's broken, just don't plug the white connector in when you're not reflashing.

well the cable, or drivers or the cars ECU is bad because
I CANT READ OR WRITE TO MY ROM.
you had said that my cable is driving the voltage when it shouldn't.
so what is the fix for that?

Not sure. Does the voltage on the programming connector pin go to about 15V when attempting to reflash / read?

As far as a fix goes, you may be up for a new cable, but if you feel brave, hunt down the schematic for OpenPort 1.3 (or whatever you have). You can find it on this forum. Those cables are held together with hot melt glue, so go easy when disassembling. Obtain a digital multimeter or scope and see if all the circuit sections are doing the right thing.

That's about as far as I can help you with I'm afraid. Good luck!

Nice one! Did you fix it yourself? If so, what was the fault?
