Cannot download map from ECU via Tactrix cable and ECUFlash

Postby conradh » Sat Dec 20, 2008 8:38 pm

Hello:
I have a 2005 9-2X Saabaru Aero ( exactly same car as a 05 WRX minus the bug eyes ) and I am desperately trying to connect to my ECU via EcuFlash or even logging with RomRaider for that matter.
These are the conditions:
-The laptop is a 1.82 Gigabyte 32 bit Intel processor with a fresh install on Window that is clean as a whistle.
-The cable is a Tactrix Open Port 2.0 (see source http://www.tactrix.com/product_info.php ... 24ad1afed7)
-The proper reflash connector ( aka jumper, see: http://www.tactrix.com/product_info.php?cPath=23_25_31&products_id=33)
-EcuFlash 1.4 has been successfully installed with the proper openport drivers and the latest definitions.

I execute the following procedures:
-Have PC running and open ECUFlash
-Connect the green jumper cables.
-Connect the reflash connector.
-plug the Tactrix cable Open Port into the car port ( led inside begins to light ).
-plug USB end into PC ( beep from XP saying that the OpenPort is plugged in and recognized )
-Open ECUFlash and attempt
-Click the read from ECU button
-Choose 2004-2005 WRX USDM and try to download

Then what happens is that a command window appears, attempts to download from the ECU, prints some nice machine code to the screen and then closes.

I get the following error from ECUFlash:
[21:39:56.781] Version 1.40.2178
[21:39:56.781] 19 memory models read.
[21:39:56.781] scanning for metadata models in C:/Program Files/OpenECU/EcuFlash/rommetadata

[21:40:52.734] unable to connect to vehicle interface.
[21:40:52.734] interface close

After this is complete I get an error that seems to be related to the Open Port 2.0 not being able to communicate with the ECU.

I have already tried several things like reinstalling ECUFlash and the drivers to make sure everything was in working order, double check the cables, turn the ignition to asc instead of off before the flash. I don't even get to the point where ECUFlash tells me to turn the ignition on.

Would any of the following actions help:
-Should I do a manual reset of the ECU by disconnecting the negative battery terminal?
-Do a load test on the battery because it may not be producing the right amount of voltage for the Tactrix cable.
-Maybe I should try and download the Open Port 2.0 drivers via Internet instead of using the ones that I download from openecu.org?

I have searched and have found some people with similar problems despite being very vigorous with troubleshooting:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1629381
well. tired again. followed those directions. and got the exact same error. i have tried 2 different cars, 2 different cables, and 4 different laptops. my computer is finding and recognizing the drivers on its own before i even link to the cable but i tried it with the cable anyways. im at a loss and frustrated. just spent 3 months building my motor and all i want to do is flash so i can drive. there has to be something stupid we are missing

I have not gone that far yet, but I am desperate and any other suggestions is greatly appreciated as I cannot find any obvious solution. I've been looking around and there are similar problems, but I cannot find anything that explains an exact problem and solution.

Thanks
