Noobs Guide to Reprogramming Mitsubishi EVO 3 Factory ECU

Postby Mitsiman » Sun Aug 17, 2008 5:22 pm

I have read through the forums and picked up a lot of information, but the one thing I couldn't find was a detailed guide how to do this from start to finish.

I have downloaded the ECUFlash software and that looks fairly intuitive.

My question is mostly, other than purchasing the appropriate tuning cable, do I need to modify the ECU to be able to re flash it or can I just go straight into loading the software, copying the factory maps and then saving them, and then jumping straight into altering the maps and re flashing the ecu?

I work with after market EMS systems all the time, but this is a new area for me working within a factory ECU so I am wanting to get all the information I can.

Today I will use my Scanner to get the rom information off the ecu so I can then confirm which definiton maps etc I should be using.

I am afraid Evo 3 (1995-1996) does not have a flashable ECU. It may have an EPROM ECU or in worse case just OTP processor – one time programmable by the factory. If you are lucky and have the EPROM ECU, you can socket it and put the flash memory.
