1.34 Error on ECU Read

Postby Paolino » Fri Dec 07, 2007 4:30 pm

Hi guys. Kind of new to this.
I just got my cable in and went to attempt to flash the gabedude stage 1 map to my 27 manual wrx.

I could not even get a successful read of my ECU however. Here is the log: (I tried it multiple times)

Thanka in advance. The green connectors are connected and the key is in the ON position.

If you turn the key, on most Subarus you only have a few seconds to start ECUFlash's actual read or write process. Usually the easiest way is to click Read, then wait to click "OK" on the pop up box until you turn the key to Run, then quickly press "OK". People consistently fail to get this part right the first time they start using ECUflash.

Do you hear the fans start to cycle when you do turn the key? You should if the green connector is plugged in properly.

I tried it exactly as you said and I am still unable to get a read on my ROM. What am I doing wrong? I choose 2005-2007 Subaru DBW Models WRX/STi. I am trying to read my USDM 2007 Manual WRX.

I am seeing that the log changes from when I turn the key on and press ok, instead of waiting. When I wait I get the "SSM2 init" over and over before it errors out. WHen I do it the way you instructed, I get Sending Seed... Requesting key... then interface close. I can hear a single click noise also when that happens. Is that normal?

Something I noticed is that my green connectors have always been connected. (I never did it) Is that something to be concerned about?

Sorry to bump this, I am just anxious to get things working. Is it possible that its a Vista issue?

Connecting the green test mode connector is not an optional step. I asked a question above about the fans, which you did not answer, and will let you know if you properly connected the green connector or not.

So, go look again. You have to connect it. On most (all?) US cars it is on the driver's side under the dash, to the left (driver's side) side of the steering column. Get a flashlight if you have to, and try looking harder. It really is there, and you definitely have NOT been running around with it connected all this time.

Ok I'll go check. I see two wires connected with green tips and they were always like that. I never connected them myself. I will take pics. Maybe there are two sets of em.

I will check to see if I hear the fans. Why do you say I have not been running aorund with em on? Is it bad or will the vehicle not start?

Yep I am looking at the green connectors and they are locked together. I unhooked them an re hooked them. When you say the green test connector is it a pair of green connectors that connect to each other? Those are connected. Or a single one that connects somewhere else? There is no fan noise. :/

Now I am a little concerned...

Ok wow. lol
Here is something for everyone to know with newer model WRXs:

The green connectors are under the passenger's side of the car, under the right foot floor-corner panel. These are the green connectors. (There are green connectors under the driver's side too but there were already connected LOL) I found them from this link.

http://forums.openecu.org/viewtopic.php?t=2958&highlight=test+connectors

"NOTE: Other years/models usually have test connectors in a different location, I can only verify this for a 2006 STI.
They are green connectors (that are not connected) located by the passengers right foot (covered by the piece of molding that runs along the bottom of the door up to the bottom of the glove box). It is pretty easy to take off, and if your taking the slow tune (incremental, over days) route you probably want to let it hang out for the mean time."

A user was describing flashing an 06 STi. :) :) :) :) We're in business. My map saved. Gabedude Stage 1 uploaded.

Thanks for your help, Freon! :)

WOOT. Time to drive.
