It sounds like it does while not in the test mode, since logging works. Maybe I can try giving you a version that doesn't do the ssm init, and see if it the rest of the reflash sequence still works... It would be nice to get the log from the working 07 STi reflash to see what happens there.

Cool beans. That would be great! Just let me know.

Sounds like it's worth a shot to try reading the ROM without putting the car in test mode.

Somebody has successfully pulled the ROM from a US 2007 5MT WRX. So maybe there's a problem with your configuration or hardware.

Well, i'm the one who managed to pull it successfully.
i outlined my process in the other thread, but i'll copy it here as well.

1. Connect OpenPort 1.2 to car
2. connect green test connectors
3. connect OpenPort 1.2 to laptop (already on)
4. turn car on
5. launch ECU Flash 1.28.716
6. initiate ROM download
7. select "2005-2006 Subaru DBW models" when prompted.
8. ECU download commenced.
9. when it asked for a profile, i selected to create a new profile based on the 06 WRX and saved the file.

that's it. it just worked. nothing out of the ordanary.
After reading over this thread and a few like it, I'm beginning to believe that 1.29a might be the problem. i'd also make sure that the FTDI or what ever it is drivers are installed properly.

Personally, i'd look for a copy of 1.28 if you can find it and try that.
if you don't have any luck, i can try and zip mine up and send it to you.

i just never plunged into the 1.29, as i had no reason. i never really work with mitsus. just my 04 wrx and a few friends cars.

I had trouble with my drivers when trying to uninstall.

I had to uninstall, then remove drivers. Then reinstalled, but still wouldn't work so I uninstalled again, removed the FTDI drivers, deled openecu folder, then went into hardware manager and deleted the com port. Then reinstalled and everything was working fine.?
