Man, if you are that desparate for it you could try writing the kernel yourself.

Yup it's very inconvenient. We've all been waiting for over eight months...
but just remember he's doing it for all of us... for FREE.

Well, since everybody is so anxious to get their hands on Colby's work, why don't you help him a little bit for a change?

If you can offer a bit of code to help with the H8 kernel,or any ECU, go ahead!
Feel free to offer. Or are you merely waiting to get rather than give?

I rarely see people offering anything on this forum, except ROM files without definitions!

very true well done, you'd think people were paying for this Man's time and expertise as for the cable Im sure the time materials and engineering that went into it well deserves a measly 90 dollars.
so a little manners and patience would be nice, 8)

Well said Barry, Colby could have abandoned the whole project but he has stuck it out. If you ask me Colby deserves alot more thanks for what he's been doing.

Thanks a million Colby :D

I think that if say 50 of us got together and paid $10 to Colby via paypal for his time developing this software for the H8 it might show a bit of appreciation to the guy and encourage him to finish it. I would certainly pay this small amount for such a valuable thing! :D

i've tried to give a donation other than buying a cable, but never got a response about where to send it. when you compare the costs of being able to reflash vs a standalone, a couple hundred is nothing to part with.

My sentiments exactly. It'll be more than worth it eventually.
Let's cut Colby some slack here.

I agree... Colby doent get enough credit.

I have a cable and a 2000 ECU and just knowing that he is working on it is enough for me. I will wait patiently and when he finishes it I will be happy. If there is anything I can do to help I am willing. I dont have the equipment to read a rom from the H8 directly, nor do I have the expertise that he does, but I do have some experience programming and I understand hex editing and have cracked some software in the past. I'm sure however that softice doesnt exactly work with the H8, but it is usually written in C so it probably can be modded for it.

I am willing to let my car be the guinea pig in this endeaver and if I can read a rom file and write it to the ecu, I will help hex out the def files. Heck, Ill even hex edit my rom directly if I have to.

Let me just tell you all that cracking machine code is not an easy job. Its one thing to bypass a CD or serial check, its a totally different matter to reverse engineer a peice of software that doesnt have a high level component to trace. Not to mention just cus its written in C doesnt mean they left the Debug tags in the final release so it can be disassembled.

Colby, you are the man for helping us and if it takes you another year to finish cracking the H8, I will still be here.

Boost will have blown up my car by then. Some people, very foolish people, turboed their car and was relying on ecu flash for a good tune.

It is interesting to see how people with cars worth a lot more than 20grand rely on a cable worth less than 90 bucks and some free software to save them from complete engine breakdown.

Get serious!

If somebody can explain how to read a file dump directly from the H8 then I have to cars to do it with. I also have many bits of tuning equipment like Eprom Programmer, BDM programmer ect.
Just let me know and I will help.
