Well, it had to happen sooner or later I suppose. I tried another flash today but it failed. Here is the log.

Car cranks, pump on etc but no start.

Tried the battery disconnect but no go.

Seems that my PC won't even connect up now.

Does any one have any suggestions what I could try to revive my poor old ECU?

Well, I disconnected the battery for 20 min, re-connected, tried to re-flash and it worked. Car started.

Only now the ECU has lost the immobiliser code & wouldn't let me start it again after I turned it off. It just would not accept the 4 digit pin.

Anyway, rang SUbaru & they advised me how to emergency start it, so I could get to the dealer to enter a master code & reset the immobiliser code.

The thing is, in case of a bad flash in future, you just can't be sure if an attempted reflash has worked but the pin has been erased, or the re-flash itself has failed, as the symptoms are very similar (crank but no start). The give away is that if the CEL is on (fuel pump working), then you know the flash failed. If the CEL is off (no fuelpump working), then you know the pin has been erased and required Subaru master code.
