colby,

do you know what is the minimum voltage that can be fed to the ECU? how stable does the 12V have to be?

since the engine is not running you cannot be guaranteed of 12.5V to start with and with the ever present 0.5V drop across regulators you may be feeding it with less than 12V?

The HC916 docs state it has to be between 11.5v - 12.5v for flashing.

Stability isn't a problem with the taxtrix interface, the voltage reg takes care of that.

Not to interfer, since I experienced some problems with low voltage (stuck with 12.3v on the logger), I always connect an external battery charger to the car while reflashing.

Not as much expensive as an ECU ;)

The HC916 requires 11.4-12.6V for flashing, but I'm not sure if that is what you are asking, or if you are referring to the minimum voltage you need to have the CPU operate correctly. That could depend on a lot of things. Some cars I have known in the past have a relay which switches power to most of the ignition electronics the won't engage if the battery voltage is too low - similar to starter solenoids.

FYI, the reflashing kernel I wrote follows the manufacturers specs and is adaptive in both the number and duration of programming pulses it applies to erase and reprogram the flash. It is able to compensate over the range of acceptable reflashing voltages.
