Openport 2.0 question

Postby shazam » Tue Jun 22, 2010 7:36 pm

I was wondering if the Openport 2.0 will work with OBD-II scanning software, such as OBD GPS Logger (http://icculus.org/obdgpslogger/), that works with elm327 based devices to "talk" to the ECU? Or is the Openport 2.0 only designed to handle the J5234 protocol for programming the ECU? Basically, I want to know if this cable can do double duty for scanning and programming, or if I will have to buy another cable to scan with.

My understanding is that elm327 devices translate RS-232 into OBD-II messages; does the Openport 2.0 work in a similar way, translating RS-232 into J5234?

Is there documentation or a software development kit (SDK) available so that third-party software can make use of the Openport? If so, what platforms are supported (Windows, Mac, Linux)?

Thanks!
