OpenPort 2 firmware not updating?

Postby altaic » Fri Oct 17, 2008 12:57 pm

Hi all,
I have the newest version of EcuFlash (1.39.2152), and I have used it to read my ECU image (success, showing firmware 1.00.2028) and test write (failure, showing firmware 1.00.2028). It also shows CAN Kernel V1.06. I can't figure out how to get the firmware to update to 1.01.2145.

Also, before each operation, a cmd prompt window pops up with a message like "Cannot execute the specified program." I'm not sure if that's related or what program it's trying to execute, since it closes before I can examine it.

I really don't want to attempt a write with the old buggy firmware; does it somehow auto-update on a write? I hate auto-update schemes like this...

Anyway, I would really appreciate some help with this.

I'm using XP, btw.

Also, Colby said in response to a similar bug on his tracker that the installation must have been incomplete and to redownload and reinstall (don't attempt a write if it shows the wrong firmware!). I did this and it did not fix the problem. Installation succeeded and there are no errors reported.

If there are errors or failures, they are silent, leaving me totally in the dark. I would *very* much like a proper firmware update utility! This auto-update thing sucks (IMNSHO).

Here is a log of a read attempt that I aborted (notice no device errors or anything and firmware is 1.00.2028). Going through with the read rather than aborting it also shows no errors other than an occasional invalid kernel response that is automatically retried/corrected. Other people with firmware updating problems had errors right after all of the flashing tool loaded messages.

I'm running out of ideas, here. Can anyone help me out?

Okay, so I tried it on my friend's computer, also running XP with the same service pack, and it worked. I'm thinking the driver was messed up and removing the EcuFlash 1.38 drivers and reinstalling with the EcuFlash 1.39 drivers for some reason didn't work. OTOH, I really have no idea, maybe it's a hardware problem or something. Everything else appears to work fine, though-- I reflashed my car successfully using the now updated OP2 on the computer that wouldn't update.

I tried installing 1.4 on 2 computers that didn't have any other previous versions of ecuflash or any drivers and I'm getting the same cmd error on both. Both are XP machines being run as admin.. This is driving me nuts!
