Help! Cannot read ECU

Ive just bought a Tactrix cable, plugged it in to my 04 UK STi PPP and can't get ECUFlash, ECUEXplorer or any other software to 'read' the ECU. As far as Ican see there is not an option for 04 EDU STi, just WRX or DBW.
I've tried with the green jumpers connected and disconnected. I can get the ECU ID but then ECUFlash says error - read log.
Any ideas? I have not connected the flash cable as all I want to do is log at the moment.
The Openport 1.3 was installed during the ECUFlash installation and I can see the COM setting as COM8 (as my bluetooth adapter is taking COM5)
