does any one know of an ecuflash version for macs or something similar? or do i have to load windows xp on to my mac to run it?

probably will not work. just buy any used pc laptop and that's it

Although I have not done any ECU flashing, only reading, I use
www.parallels.com
software to run Windows on my linux laptop for some OBD-II Windows specific software. It appears that the Mac guys use it quite a bit too. I'd say there is a decent chance that it will allow you to run the windows flasing software on your Mac.
