Alex Pepper's Interface cable

Postby Hal » Fri Sep 30, 2005 7:44 am

I have an interface cable that I bought a couple of years ago from Alex Pepper at http://www.obd-2.com. This is a DB9-OBD2 cable. Will this cable work with the reflashing software?

Thanks,

Hal

I would say no, it has no hope of dumping or reflashing.

It may or may not work ok with some logging software capabilities.

I don't know much about the interface. At worst it will not work at all, at best you could dump the ECU, but not reflash.

I have this cable. It works very well with the Tari DL1 logging software. I haven't tried it with the reflashing program.

How can one use these generic cables to get a dump of the ECU?

If the car is an 04-05 WRX, you only need a working K line and the ability to do aribtrary baud rates with your serial port (specifically, 4800, 15625, and 39473 baud). Then ecuflash should work fine for dumping.

Thanks for the information. You confirmed what I thought I read on another forum. I guess I can try to see if it'll dump the ECU. I've got a 2002, if that makes any difference?

Pepper's box is a K-line adaptor actually. (and extra scheme for PWM and VPW protocols, but these ones are not for Scooby).

It works on subarus (1996 and on for US, 2001 and on for Europe) with OBDtool v.1260 soft via OBD-II ISO-9141-2 protocol.

With TARI and Delta_Dash software this box works via Subaru Select Protocol.

For flashing you need not "K", but K-L adaptor, and extra DC power supply to a pin of j1962 connector.
...and u will need suitable soft...
