SSM request over CAN bus

It connects to my MY09 STI correctly via the OBDII port and successfully monitors broadcast CAN messages and will send/receive standrad OBDII PID requests.
Is it possible to use standard CAN messages (single frame or multi-frame) to send SSM messages and thereby use the read address (A8) function to access additional information (extended data)?
