Hello all,

due to some hamfisted soldering, the reistor highlighted in the lower half of the picture has become damaged and needs replacing. How do i identify it? Would the datasheet from the chip it connects to help? Do you think the identical looking resistor above it would be of the same value? It's a mazda denso ECU, 7058 MCU.

Hard to say, but if it's the one down the bottom, it's more likely a capacitor rather than a resistor. It looks like one is tied to a ground plane too (or power rail, probably ground by the looks of it).
The best way to guess the value is to find one that looks identical nearby (colour and size), take it off, and measure it using an LCR meter. But this is only a guess; lots of capacitors look the same so you can't tell for sure if the 'reference' one is identical.
If you can find a pin on the micro that it connects to you might be lucky and find something in the data sheet.
Given the context of the part in the photo though, I'd say the part directly above it is likely to be the same.

No guarantees though. Good luck.
