Just received the OpenPort Cable, Now cant get it to work.

Postby Spec C Wannabe » Mon May 01, 2006 10:32 pm

The cable arrived today. I connect it to my computer and it said a new device found. Ther was a choice to "Use Window Update to search for a Software", so I chose option "Yes this time only" ,then I clicked the "Next" button but failed with the expression "The hardware was not installed because the wizard can not find the necessary software" :(

Now I am in an absolute mess. Do I need to download a driver for it? Where can I get it?

Kindly give me advices.

The drivers are on the same page you ordered from:

http://www.tactrix.com/product_info.php?products_id=31

Specifically, for XP, you can use this one:

http://forums.openecu.org/openport%20drivers/win98ME2kXP/R9052154.zip

I'm in the process of reorganizing the site and making some howtos, sorry for the confusion.

Hi Colby,

Thanks for your reply. Finally I've gotten it installed successfully...Thanks for your link for the driver

Without waiting, I ran to the car and connected everything.
Init connector is connected all the time
The green connector is connected only when I tried to read from the ECU, otherwise it is unplugged. Crawling under the dash to repeatedly connect and unconnect the green stuff is a big pian in my rear! uh I mean my back hehe...

Have tried running every programs that I got: ECUFlash, Tari DL1, EcuExplorer only to find none worked! Through my inexperience eyes, I seems that the cable is not transferring data from the ecu to laptop. I'm not sure it's the hardware or software problem.. For example, when I ran Tari DL1, the "LIVE" tab is not activated meaning it didn't respond when I clicked on it. And the bottom left corner showed " Disconnected"

Same as EcuExplorer, The left panel showed that the ECU is disconnected.

For Ecuflash, It poped up a window telling that my green connecter is not connected. If I proceed, it will show up the "error" window.

Here are some of my screen shots

At least in the case of EcuFlash, you need to go to Options | Port and select the correct port that the OpenPort is connected to. Right now you are connected to COM1, which is most likely your standard serial port.

you need to select a COM port for ecuExplorer to use. from the screen-shot the COM1 port has not been assigned to anything.

you must have the OpenPort cable plugged in first before the new COM port will be available for assignment. once its there then right-click on it and select the SSM option.

Well, I received my 1.3m yesterday and I am having the same driver issue. I found that the link on tactrix to the driver is a dead link. From http://www.tactrix.com/product_info.php ... ucts_id=34 to http://openecu.org/openport%20drivers/w ... 052154.zip . However, it looks like the link on the top of this page looks like the same zip file.

Yet I can't get windows xp to recognize the driver for this cable. Any suggestions on getting this specific cable to be paired with a driver?

Thanks in advance

I'm still trying to get the first 1.3M release of EcuFlash out today (<1hr away). It has a driver installer built in.

I ran the new version of EcuFlash, then linked the cable and everything looks like it worked perfectly. No driver problem. I haven't hooked up to the ecu yet, but so far so good.

Keep up the Great work!
