Ok. Being a bit more specific, it detects a usb device is there under the usb devices root, displayed as unknow.

But I cannot get the driver installed. I tried manually updating the driver from the update driver button, I tried installing the device as a new hardward from the add-hardware icon.

I have installed this device on 3 computers and in all, the ibm is the worst.

All of them gave me problems, but the IBM just tops it.

I have a neer Fujitsu, and an old IBM Thinkpad 600 that both work great.

It has to be some kind of driver conflict or something. Uninstall all the drivers you've installed already for it, and reboot and try to install the recommended one again.

I tried the FTClean utility and waited for awhile.

I plugged the cable back in w/o unknow device showing up and then I installed the driver twice, since the first time, a hardware install box appeared again.

I think this software needs to updated to 2005. One install should have done it.

Hey Colby, I got my openport about 2 weeks ago and love it but this week you sent me another one. Did I get someone else's by mistake? Do you just want me to send it back to you?

Oops! I may not have marked yours as shipped and then sent you another, although the 2 week delay would be unlikely in that case. If it's not a hassle to send it back, please do, and I can credit you for shipping. Otherwise, if you know someone who could really use it, give it to them.

You have to admit that this is a pretty damn cool community. He spoke up when he got a "free" connector. Colby said to keep it if he had a good home. Someone else says he would like it, but wants Colby to have the money. Where else would you see class like that?

I would say that the chip use in this product is not to stable.

On two seperate machines with xp w/ full updates, i have a hard problems detecting the cable as usb <> serial.

I would advice on using anohter chip set.

Perhaps there is something wrong with your paricular unit. Send me an email and we can work on resolving the situation. I have designed products in the past that used this chip that have had production quantities that are probably near a half million at this point, without the type of problem you are mentioning, so I don't think it is the chip in general. Most USB products I have designed these days don't use a chip like this because USB can be done inside the microcontroller, but I think it works well for this application.

Which version of the hardware should I buy for use on an '05 Subaru Legacy GT? Is there an FAQ somewhere or documentation which lists the hardware compatibility specs for the two versions of OpenPort 1.0?

Get the Subaru one. The only time you need the other is older (pre 2000) Subaru's, or other car makes.

Another solution to the uncertainty behind flash pin 11 is to assemble a J1962 pass-through adapter with pin 11 disconnected.

Maybe Colby could make that a follow-up product for the tactrix site, :).

Hi,

I recently bought the openport from you, the wrx version.
I use it with the tari DL1 sw and everything works great.

I would now like to use it to dump my ECU using your software:ecuflash.

I have read up on the thread but I would just like to make sure that I understand if there are any risks with using the the WRX Openport cable with this util since it has the programming pin enabled?

My car: WRX STI -2003 Euro version

No risk while you are only dumping your ECU, it writes only in RAM area to get flash content.
